Video - Ken Block Smashes Records In Route To Victory #6 At Rally 100 Acre Wood

March 5th, 2012, Los Angeles, California – Monster World Rally Team’s Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino successfully nabbed their 6th consecutive overall win at Rally America’s Rally in the 100 Acre Wood in Salem, MO last weekend. Winning 15 of the 17 stages in the event, the duo laid down a blistering pace throughout the entire rally.
“I’m stoked about winning my 6th consecutive 100 Acre Wood rally,” said Block. “The battle against David Higgins was intense on every stage. He’s the current Rally America champ and one of the people who helped teach me how to race a rally car when I first got started; so to finally compete against him on this level was great, I really enjoyed it. I’m definitely looking forward to running against him again later this year in Olympus.”
After a highly successful day one of racing, which saw Block and Gelsomino win five of that day’s six stages, the pair found themselves sitting in first place going into day two with an 18.6-second lead over last season’s Rally America Champion, Subaru’s David Higgins. After the second day of racing—which included winning all of that day’s stages with the exception of one due to having to slow pace for a tire puncture—which consisted of eleven more stages, they finished the rally with a 29.3-second lead over second place.
“This was the first time we’ve actually raced my H.F.H.V. Ford Fiesta in stage rally,” said Block. “It wasn’t an easy race and we definitely had some things to work through mechanically, but overall it went well and learned a lot about the car. Plus, it’s great to win with it out on its maiden Rally America race!”
With a win under their belts to kickstart the 2012 season, Block and Gelsomino are now preparing for WRC Mexico, which will take place in Léon, Mexico, March 8-11. For Mexico, they’ll also be joined at the event with new teammates—former WRC driver Chris “Atko” Atkinson and co-driver Stephane Prevot, who’ll be racing in a new #21 MWRT Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
